Richard I. Stevens, Sr.

Richard I. Stevens, Sr., 94, a resident of Ephrata Manor, died Monday, October 28, 2013 at the home. He was the husband of the late Jean H. Snyder Stevens who died in 2003. Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Henry H. and Anna M. Irwin Stevens. Richard had worked as a proof reader at Lancaster Press for 40 years and then at Tapsco in Akron for three and a half years. He was a graduate of the Boys High School in Lancaster and served in the U.S. Army with the 139th Army Air Force Base Unit during World War II. He was a member of St. Luke’s United Church of Christ in Lititz, the International Typographical Union and was a member and past commander of the Knights of Malta Martin Luther Commandery No. 13. His interests included gardening and baking. Surviving is a son, Richard I. “Rick”, Jr. husband of Randee Stevens of Harrisburg; two granddaughters, Abigail Stevens of Conshohocken, and Molly Stevens of Harrisburg; a sister, Eleanor L. Stevens of Ephrata; and a brother Charles H. Stevens of Decatur, GA. He was preceded in death by a daughter Karen L. Stevens and by two brothers Robert H. and Harold L. Stevens. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2013 at 12:30 P.M. at the Chapel in the Mausoleum at Conestoga Memorial Park, 95 Second Lock Road, Lancaster, PA. Friends may call at the chapel on Saturday from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to St. Luke’s United Church of Christ, 222 N. Broad St., Lititz, PA 17543.
