Robert E. Marion, Jr.
Robert E Marion Jr., 79, of Lancaster, passed away at Essa Flory Hospice Center on December 9, 2012 surrounded by family.
He was the husband of Barbara Rutter Marion and they celebrated fifty years of marriage on July 27, 2012. Born in Lancaster PA, he was the son of the late Robert E., Sr. and Marie Bowman Marion. Bob was employed by Penn Dairies 32 years, retiring in 1982 as comptroller.
Bob was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church. He graduated from McCaskey High School in 1950 and a 1980 graduate of Elizabethtown College. He served in the US Army from 1953- 1955 in Germany.
Following retirement he was an active genealogist tracing his family back to 495 AD, publishing 3 family books. Bob’s involvements included: member of Emitus Life Associations Institute of Management Accountants; a former member and past president of the Sixth Ward Citizens Association from 1960-1976 ; former member and past president of the Lancaster Exchange Club; member of the Lancaster Historical Society for 22 years; member of the Mennonite Historical Society; Pennsylvania Historical Society of Philadelphia; New England Historical Society in Boston MA; Lutheran Historical Society of Lancaster County. Bob was also involved in the Boy Scouts of America for more than 65 years receiving the Star Rank and the Silver Beaver Award. He was scoutmaster for Troop 25.
In addition to his wife, Bob is survived by two daughters, Kathryn Marion of Lancaster and Margaret, wife of Kevin McCabe of Rothsville and two grandchildren. He is also survived by an Aunt, Nancy Norris of Lancaster. He was predeceased by his brother, Richard Bowman Marion, originally of Lancaster.
A memorial service will be held from St. Peter’s Lutheran Church 10 Delp Rd. Lancaster, PA on Saturday, December 15, 2012 at 11 AM. The family will visit with friends immediately following the service. Private interment in Riverview Burial Park will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Bob’s name be sent to the Lancaster Historical Society, the Boy Scouts of America, or to the charity of one’s choice.
