Robert Long Bomberger

Robert Long Bomberger, 90, of Lititz, PA passed away on September 7, 2013 at Moravian Manor, with his family by his side.  He was the son of the late Guy D. and Maybelle Long Bomberger.  He was the husband of Yvonne Burkholder Bomberger with whom he recently celebrated their 58

th

wedding anniversary.

Bob was a 1941 graduate of Lititz High School, and of Franklin and Marshall College where he was a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and Pi Gamma Mu honor society.  He served in WWII and in the Korean conflicts as a captain in the United States Air Force.  He was a member of and elected to serve on the board of the Military Officers Association of America.

Upon graduation, Bob briefly worked at Lancaster RCA as office manager, later joining his father at Long & Bomberger building materials company, where he served as president for 36 years.  He was a member of the 97

th

legislative district advisory council with former State Representative John Bear.  Bob was on the advisory board of Lititz Commonwealth Bank, member of the Young Mens’ Business League, life member of American Legion Post 56, past treasurer of Lititz Area School Authority for construction of Lititz Middle School, and board member of Eastern Building Material Dealers Association.

He was a member of the Lititz Lions Club, and a past member and president of the Lititz Jaycees Club and also served as trustee of Linden Hall School for girls.

A member of Lititz Moravian Church, he served as president of Trustees, taught Sunday school and enjoyed volunteering at the Lititz Community Welcome Center.

He was a member of the Lebanon Country Club and was one of the original crew drivers of the Lititz Ambulance Assoc.  He enjoyed playing golf and bridge, bird watching and helping his brother Guy Jr. band birds for the National Audubon Society.  His greatest love was spending time with his wife, Yvonne, sons, daughters in law, and grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, Yvonne, Bob is survived by four sons: Robert G, husband of Cheryl of Lititz, Steven W, husband of Natalie of Wilmington, DE, Michael L, husband of Valerie of Lititz, and Douglas S, husband of Kelly of Lititz; 8 grandchildren: Matthew and Nicole, Stephanie and Russell, Tayler and Brittney, and Drew and Dain; a sister, Nancy Altdoerffer of Lancaster and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Beatrice Posey and his brother, Guy D. Bomberger, Jr.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a memorial service at Lititz Moravian Church, 8 Church Square, Lititz, PA, 17543 on Sunday, September 15, 2013 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. Dean R. Jergen and the Rev. Mark V. Breland officiating.  The family will greet

friends at the church in Eshbach Parlor on Sunday from 1:00 PM until time of service.  Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family.
