Robert A. Smith, 70, of Buck, PA died after a fall, on Saturday, July 3rd. Born in Lancaster, PA, he was the son of the late Herbert and Dorothea (George) Smith. Bob attended J.P. McCaskey High School before enlisting in the U.S. Army where he served thirty years including four campaigns in Vietnam.
After retiring from the Army, Bob owned and operated an auto-mechanic repair shop in Oklahoma City, OK. In later years, he loved helping others and was actively involved in the Quarryville V.F.W. as Senior Vice Commander. Bob was an avid gardener and fisherman and enjoyed cooking meals for his family. Both he and his famous chicken pot pie will be greatly missed.
Bob is survived by his fiancée, Sandra Castleman. He also leaves behind his former wife, Elizabeth Smith, and their five children: Dorothea Humphreys, wife of James; Sandra Smith; Rudolph Smith; Robert Smith, all of Oklahoma City and Gabriele Patterson, wife of Richard of Columbus, GA. Also surviving are step-sisters, Juanita Bosley, wife of Charles, of Pylesville, MD; and Shelva Holmes, wife of Bud of Gassney, SC; and step-brother Leighton Hankins, husband of Gail. Bob is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard Smith, and a brother, Charles Smith.
Bob’s funeral service will be held at the Kearney A. Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA on Friday, July 9th, at 11:00 a.m. Friends may call at the funeral home from 10: 00 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in Riverview Burial Park.
