Rufus E. Shelly
Rufus E. Shelly, 92, a resident of the Mennonite Home, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, September 15, 2012.
He was married 59 years to Erma Hess Shelly. Born in Mount Joy, he was the son of the late Roy and Barbara Earhart Shelly.
Rufus retired from Roland Paving where he had been employed for many years. Early in life he had been a farmer. He was a member of Mount Calvary Church in Elizabethtown. A personable man, he enjoyed spending time with people and witnessing for the Lord. He enjoiyed hunting and fishing.
Surviving besides his wife are two brothers, Almos Shelly of Columbia, and Paul husband of Bernita Shelly of Mount Joy; three sisters, Mildred wife of Clarence Brubaker of Mount Joy, Mary wife of Luke Gerber of Columbia, and Miriam wife of Bill Fink of Mount Joy. He was preceded in death by brothers David and Leroy Shelly and by sisters Elizabeth Wise and Barbara Longenecker.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at 10:30 A.M. at the Chapel at the Mennonite Home, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA with Pastor Richard Vaughn officiating. Friends may call at the home on Wednesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment in Laurel Hill Memorial Gardens, Columbia, PA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Mr. Shelly’s memory may be made to the Mennonite Home, 1520 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, PA 17601.
