Ruth D. Ammlung

Ruth D. Ammlung, 96, a resident of the Willow Valley Retirement Communities, died Thursday, June 22, 2017 at the Glen at Willow Valley.

She was the wife of the late Harry L. Ammlung. Born in Sellersville, PA, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Hessler and Eva Kraft Rauschenberger.  She graduated from Sellersville-Perkasie High School and Temple University.

Mrs. Ammlung was a mathematician with the U.S. Government at the University of Pennsylvania and later at Aberdeen Proving Ground.  She was among a group of young women who helped to build ENIAC, the first general purpose electronic computer. She retired to be a housewife and raise a family. Ruth was a member of Ascension Lutheran church in Willow Street, PA and had been a longtime member of Grove Presbyterian Church in Aberdeen, MD where she was an ordained elder and church librarian. She loved reading and assisted at the library at Willow Valley

Surviving are two sons, Dr. Richard L. Ammlung, husband of Rev. Cathy A. Ammlung of Sylesville, MD and Dr. Robert C. Ammlung of Randallstown, MD.

Relatives and friends and respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service in the Thomas Auditorium at Willow Valley Lakes, 300 Willow Valley Lakes Dr., Willow St., PA, on Saturday, July 8, 2017 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. Steven R. Bowser officiating.  Family will greet friends in the Thomas Auditorium from 10:30 AM until the time of the service.
