Ruth D. Russell

Ruth D. Russell, 94, of Lancaster, passed away on September 22, 2017 at the Glen in Willow Valley Communities.  She was the loving wife of the late Robert R. Russell as well as to her first husband, the late David Dorman.

She received her B.S. Degree from Ohio State University and an M.S Degree from Columbia University.  Ruth dedicated much of her professional career as an educator, serving as a teacher and as a school librarian for 20 years at the Milton Hershey School before retiring in 1988.

She proudly served in the WAVES (Women Accepted for Volunteer Emergency Service) program during WWII.

Ruth was a member of a variety of organizations including the Hershey Historical Society, the Federated Women’s Club of Hershey, and the Blue Mountain WAVES.  She is the former President of the New Hampshire Librarian Association and was listed in “Who’s Who of American Women” in 1970-1971.

She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Lancaster.

She is survived by two sons, D. Douglas Dorman of Greer, SC., and William G. Dorman (husband of Noriko Namiki) of Honolulu, HI; grandchildren, Jake Dorman, Rebecca Dorman and Jade Dorman; and great-grandchildren Ayden Dorman and Victoria Dorman.  Also surviving are step-children, Charles R. Russell of San Francisco, CA and Barbara Ann Lorenzo of Point Pleasant, NJ and step-grandchildren, Lucas and Alex Lorenzo.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service in the Jack Orr Auditorium at Willow Valley Manor, 211 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, PA on Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at 1:00 PM. The family will greet after the service. Interment will be private in the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Gardens.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to the First Presbyterian Church Memorial Fund, 140 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17602.
