Ruth M. Charles
Ruth M. Charles, 87, of Willow St., PA passed away on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 at Hospice and Community Care, Mt Joy, PA. She was the widow of Emory Charles, Jr. with whom she had shared 66 years of marriage. Born in Lancaster, PA, Ruth was the daughter of the late Walter M. and Emma (Banzhof) Eckman.
She was a graduate of West Lampeter High School, and devoted her whole life to the care and comfort of her family. She was the dedicated “right-hand” to her husband, a busy mother to her 3 children, and when the time came, she spent many hours helping to care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Ruth was a member of Willow Street United Church of Christ.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Miller (wife of Charles) with whom she resided the last 2 ¼ years; a son, Elwood “Woody” Charles (husband of Joyce Greenawalt) of Lancaster, and a son, Eugene “Gene” (husband of Gina Bagnoli) of Lancaster; 9 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a funeral service in the DeBord Snyder Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc., 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA on Saturday, September 12, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. A viewing will be held at the funeral home Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service.
Interment will be in Riverview Burial Park.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ruth’s memory may be sent to Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Drive, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
