Ruth N. Lamb

Ruth N. Lamb,

90, of Lancaster, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, November 8, 2013

.

She was the wife of the late Girard E. Lamb, with whom she shared 52 years of marriage, before his death in 2001.  A native of Ridgewood, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Ruth (Wheeler) Nutt.

She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Susan Seavey, wife of Richard, and son Peter Lamb, husband of Deborah, all of Lancaster; four grandchildren, Sara Lamb, and Elliott, David and Madeline Seavey; a step-granddaughter, Taylor Rogers; and several beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her sister Isabella Montgomery.

Ruth was most recently employed as Chairman of the Board of National Novelty Brush Co., a Lancaster family business where she was a co-owner for over 40 years.  Ruth was a graduate of Ridgewood High School and Skidmore College and began her career as an executive assistant at Sylvania Electric Products in New York City and J. L. Thomson Manufacturing Co. in Waltham, MA. Ruth and Gerry, together since Ridgewood High School days, lived in Germany for two years while Gerry served in the U.S. Army and then resided in Framingham, MA, until they moved to Lancaster in 1968 to lead at National Novelty Brush.

Ruth was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church and was active as a community volunteer with the Hempfield Women’s Club and the Lancaster Chapter of the Military Officers Association of America.  She also served for several years on the “Tennis & Crumpets” Committee, to benefit historic Rock Ford Plantation.  An avid golfer, she was a member of Lancaster Country Club, and a longtime former member at Conestoga Country Club.  Ruth had a cheerful presence and enjoyed introducing many people to the two sports she loved, golf and tennis. Ruth also enjoyed gardening, duck pin bowling, reading, and bridge. However her true callings were hospitality and mentoring.  Her warmth, compassion, and encouragement will be long remembered.  Visitors were always welcomed with a smile and shared laughter.  She cherished her roles as a caring mother, wife, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, as her genuine love for others guided her life.  Ruth was a generous soul who will be deeply missed by those touched by her warmth and kindness.

Ruth’s family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to Judy Suereth, Josie Vellucci, and Janice Pomeraning, for the compassionate, loving care they offered their friend Ruth during her illness.  The family is also grateful for the wonderfully kind nurses of Hospice and Community Care, Central Penn Nursing, and Abundant Nursing.

A Memorial Service celebrating Ruth’s life will be held at Highland Presbyterian Church, 500 E. Roseville Road, Lancaster on Saturday, November 16, at 3:00 pm. with the Rev. Dr. Ann Osborne officiating.  Family and friends will be received at the church at a reception following the service.  Interment will be private, at the convenience of the family.  If desired, contributions in Ruth’s memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA  17603 (Memo: “Team Oz” Relay for Life) or to Hospice and Community Care, 685 Good Drive, P.O.
