Ruth Nancy (Swarr) Grasser, 83, of Lancaster, passed away on Wednesday, July 24, 2013 at Luther Acres. She was the loving wife of Leo C. Grasser. Born in Lancaster, Ruth was the daughter of the late Harold W. and Helen (Goda) Swarr.
She attended J.P. McCaskey High School and last worked as a Clerical Supervisor for the Lancaster County Office of Aging.
Ruth was a member of St. John Lutheran Church where she was a member of the choir, was on the Altar Guild and served as Church Council Secretary.
In her spare time she enjoyed traveling, sewing, trips to the shore, cooking and collecting recipes, and spending time with her family.
She was a proud member of the Women’s Junior League and a Girl Scout Leader both in Dallas, Pennsylvania. She was also a member of the Lancaster Silver Threads, and the Unwind Dance Club in Lancaster.
Ruth had positively affected many throughout her lifetime and enjoyed using her contagious personality to spread joy to those she came in contact with.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Theodore A. Rinehimer (husband of Regina M.) of Sinking Spring, PA; a step-son, Robert C. Grasser (husband of Beryl A.) of Reinholds, PA; a step-daughter, Julie A. Groft (wife of Lenny) of Landisville, PA; a grandson, Aaron T. Rinehimer; and step-grandchildren, Leigh Anne Whitelatch, Joshua and Jacob Grasser, and Drew and Austin Groft. Also surviving is a brother, Harold Swarr of Millersville, PA. She was predeceased by a daughter Nancy Bilenki, and a sister Janet Noel.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Funeral Service at Saint John Lutheran Church, 223 West Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17603, on Saturday July 27, 2013 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Margaret Kassees officiating. A viewing will be held Saturday from 11:30 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be in Conestoga Memorial Park.
The family would like to send a special thanks to the staffs of Luther Acres as well as Hospice & Community Care for their caring and compassionate service that they provided to Ruth.
