Ruth W. Williams, 76, of Lancaster, passed away on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Hospice of Lancaster County while under the loving care of her family and Hospice after a five-year battle with cancer.
Born May 5, 1933 in Moosic, PA, she was the daughter of the late William J. and Nellie Ramage White. She was the wife of J. Barry Williams and would have celebrated their 54th wedding anniversary on June 25th.
Mrs. Williams was a graduate of Moosic High School, a summa cum laude graduate of Lackawanna College, and attended Millersville University where she majored in psychology and music. Mrs. Williams was a classically trained musician and vocalist, playing both piano and organ. She was an organist at churches throughout Pennsylvania. She was a former member of Suburban Presbyterian Church, Scranton, PA and Moosic Presbyterian Church and was a founding member of Faith United Presbyterian Church in Emmaus, PA, where she was also a deacon.
Mrs. Williams was an avid gardener who was happiest when she was outdoors tending her garden. Ruth was an accomplished artist who enjoyed painting, working in watercolors and oils. She was also an enthusiastic bird watcher.
She is survived by the love of her life, her husband, J. Barry Williams, her devoted daughter, Cynthia L., brother, Walter H. White of Philadelphia, five nephews and two nieces. She was preceded in death by brothers, Ralph Jonathan White of Boston and William P. White of Allentown.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 26, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. at the Church of the Apostles, 1850 Marietta Avenue, Lancaster, PA with the Rev. Dr. Tyson L. Frey officiating. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 12:00 Noon until the time of the service. Interment in Silver Spring Cemetery.
