Sally B. Wiker
Sally Anne (Baldwin) Wiker, 88, Ephrata, PA, passed away at Landis Homes, Lititz, PA on Sunday May 13, 2108 (Mother’s Day). Loving wife of the late Carl Wiker (1923-2014). Born to James and Gladys (Ebersole) Baldwin in Philadelphia, PA on December 27, 1929. Throughout her life, she lived in Philadelphia, PA; Virginia; Lancaster, PA; Willow Street, PA; Coudersport, PA; Newville, PA and Ephrata, PA.
She graduated from Lampeter High School at the age of 15, having skipped several grades during her academic path. After taking additional college preparatory courses at J.P. McCaskey High School, she enrolled in the University of Pennsylvania at age 16, where she received a Bachelor’s Degree. She received her Master’s Degree from Franklin & Marshall College. She taught English and French and was the high school librarian at Paradise High School in Paradise, PA. She spent 32 years as a dealer and manager with Tupperware. Sally was an avid reader and music lover and a long and faithful member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Lancaster. Earlier in her life, she was an active member of the Willow Street United Church of Christ and the Coudersport Methodist Church.
She is survived by three sons: Carl A. Wiker Jr. of Wexford, PA married to Rosaleen (Kearney) and their children Aimee (Daniel Long), Christopher (Noelle Greenwald), Leigh (Vincent Plocido) and Allyson; Stephen T. Wiker of Ephrata, PA married to Karen (Dingle) and their children Melissa (Ryan Bluntschly), Gregory and Julia; and Benjamin Wiker of Ohio married to Theresa (George) and their children Jacob, Anna, Faith, Clare, Nathaniel, Beatrice and Rachel; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her four younger sisters Barb Donovan, Wernersville, PA; “Tink” Hugo (Bill), Clinton, NY; Pat Kingwell (Dick), Ocala FL; and “Boo” Swenson (Carl) Paoli, PA, each of whom she loved dearly; and brother-in-law Donald Wiker, Ocala, FL and sister-in-law Janet Sheely, Cornwall, PA; as well as 20 nieces and nephews.
Sally was an amazing wife to her husband Carl, a wonderful sister, an incredible “Mom” to her sons and daughters-in-law, and loving “Gram/Grammy” to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was very gentle and kind, always putting the needs of others before her own. She could quickly engage anyone in a conversation that made them feel special as if she were only interested in talking to you. She made friends easily and those who met her (from neighbors, to the postman, lawn care professionals, librarians, and people she met in line at the grocery store, to the ladies that cared for her in her home and the caregivers in the nursing home, and her fellow church members) quickly came to realize she was a “special lady.” She showed us all how we should treat each other, and how we should live in this world.
A celebration of Sally’s life will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Lancaster, 538 W. Chestnut Street, Lancaster, PA on Saturday, June 16, 2018 at 12:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her memory to the Unitarian Universalist Church of Lancaster or WITF Public Radio/TV.
