Sandra passed away at the age of 79 on March 6, 2018 at Oak Leaf Manor.
She was the daughter of Harriet Wilson Peters and Fred R. Peters from Pleasant Valley, PA, Clearfield County.
She is survived by her sister, Judy Fackler, married to James of Lancaster, her niece Tracey Campanini, married to Tony of Mifflintown, PA, her great-niece Sarah, and great-nephew Paul.
Sandra graduated from Clearfield High School, went onto Lock Haven State College and graduated with BS and MS degrees.
She first taught in the Huntington School District and later in the School District of Lancaster. She then moved to Millersville University in 1967 as an Assistant Professor of Health and Physical Education. In 1968 she added the role of Head Field Hockey Coach and remained in that position until 1984. During her tenure as head coach, the Marauders posted a 101-68-3 record, including two undefeated seasons in 1972 and 1973. In 1978 she became the first head coach of the women’s track and field team. She led the team to a 4-1 record. During her 34-year tenure at Millersville she also served as an assistant basketball coach for eight years, assistant lacrosse coach for 2 years, and head trainer for women’s athletics.
She demonstrated her expertise in her major field of study by coauthoring a book titled; Movement Activities for the Young Child in Elementary School.
The high reward of her fellow professionals was exemplified by her receiving the Professional Honor Award from the Pennsylvania State Assoc. of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance in 1997. She was inducted into the Millersville University Athletic Hall of Fame.
Sandra considered being a daughter, sister, aunt, great-aunt, and friend as her most important roles in life. Her family and friends would agree to her success and certify her as a gold medal winner. Her wisdom, constant support, and creative humor were greatly appreciated and will be missed.
She worked hard at being a great patient during her stay at Oak Leaf Manor. She always had words of wisdom for staff and tried to make sure they looked at the bigger picture, and to continue to educate themselves and find joy wherever they can.
She valued her education as one of the most beneficial things in her life. She would encourage anyone to better themselves in all kinds of learning.
She would be wishing you all “Merry Christmas” and her family would like you to celebrate her life by having fun and thinking of her when you do.
You will find her next “Somewhere over the Rainbow.”
