Betty Ireland, 102, of The Glen at Willow Valley, Lancaster, PA died Thursday, March 8th at that facility. She was married for 73 years to the late C. Edwin Ireland.
Born February 21, 1910 in Philadelphia, she was the only child of Llewellyn and Emma Propert. Mrs. Ireland lived in Ridley Park, PA when her children were young, moving to Lancaster and Avalon NJ in her later years. She was active in community work and politics all of her life. For many years, her lovely soprano voice delighted members of the First Presbyterian Church in Ridley Park. She was a skilled and gracious hostess who frequently welcomed many friends to her homes. She was a member of the PEO Sisterhood, a past president of the Pennsylvania Council of Republican Women, and a deacon of the Presbyterian Church. She volunteered her time and interest in the Pennsylvania Dutch community, and was a positive and strong role model for her family.
Mrs. Ireland was predeceased by her husband and her sons, Charles E. Jr., and Llewellyn Propert. Surviving are daughters-in-law Patricia, wife of Charles Jr., and Mary, wife of Llewellyn; four grandchildren, Kathleen Ireland, Lisa, wife of Charles Glymph, Stewart Ireland, husband of Alice, and Shawn Ireland; and eight great-grandchildren: Benjamin, Nathaniel and Conner Ireland, Gregory and Marcus Tatum, and Kelly, Caitlin, and Kristine Glymph.
The family is grateful for the skill, dedication and compassionate attitudes of the fifth floor nurses and staff at The Glen.
A memorial service will be held Friday, March 16 at 1:00 P.M. in the Manor North Auditorium at 600 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, PA17602. Following the service, a private interment will be held at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Philadelphia PA.
