Sarah H. “Betty” Behringer

Sarah H. “Betty” Behringer, 90, of Lancaster, entered into Heaven on Monday, April 30th, 2012 at Willow Valley Retirement Community. She was the loving wife of the late Harold W. Behringer who passed away in 2004.

She was born on March 27, 1922, in Clarksburg, WV, to the late William R. and Urilla Fosnocht Hashinger.

She graduated from West Virginia University with a B.A. in Music Education, beginning a career as a music teacher but dedicated much of her life to being a wonderfully supportive wife, an extraordinary mother to her children, Alan and Paul, and treasuring her family. She had many friends and lived a simple but elegant life, nurturing and supporting all who came in contact with her.

Her love for music was unbounded and a gift she freely gave to everyone as a charter member of the “No Name Band” at Willow Valley Retirement Community as the band’s pianist. In her spare time she enjoyed quilting, knitting, playing card games, spending time with her family, and listening to classical music.

She was an active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Wilmington, DE for 40 years, and of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Lancaster where she enjoyed singing in the choir.

She is survived by her two sons; Alan W., of Wilmington, DE, and his wife, Betty; and Paul E., of Petaluma, CA, and his wife, Marian Olsen; two grandchildren; Scott A., of Landenberg, PA, and his wife, Susie; and Sara E. Hagerty, and her husband, Bobby of Newark, DE,; and two great-grandchildren, Elaina and Hudson, of Newark, DE; and nine nieces and nephews, all of whom she dearly loved.

Also surviving are 3 siblings; W. Roy Hashinger, Jane H. Nicholson, and Richard F. Hashinger.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial Service in the Thomas Auditorium of Willow Valley Lakes Manor, 300 Willow Valley Square, Lancaster, PA on Monday, May 7th at 11:00 A.M with Reverend Dr. Louis Palmieri officiating. Friends may greet the family from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be private at Conestoga Memorial Park.
