Sharon Swope Schmid passed away peacefully on Friday, January 2, 2015 at Hospice and Community Care, Mt. Joy, PA with family by her side following a serious illness of several years. Born January 5, 1945 in Lancaster County, PA, she was the daughter of the late Margaret R. and Henry M. Swope. She married Dennis C. Schmid in 1965 who also preceded her in death in 1998. She is survived by three children: Amy S., wife of Benjamin Deardorff; Kyle D., husband of Yvonne Schmid; Mitchell K. Schmid and Tara Brown; eleven grandchildren – Mason, Nate, Emily, Sarah, Elizabeth, Romi, Samantha, Isabella, Kendall, Grace and Bode; two sisters: Christine S., wife of Robert J. Mobley, and Elizabeth Swope-Holman; brother-in-law, Jeff, husband of Bobbi Schmid; aunt; several cousins, nieces and nephews.
Sharon is a 1963 graduate of Conestoga Valley High School and the Lancaster School of Practical Nursing in 1964. She worked as a LPN in a local hospital and was later employed by several medical group practices. She was the owner of the first Visiting Angels of Lancaster from 2003 until 2013. She was passionate about caregiving and was highly respected in the community for the compassionate care that was given by her company and its caregivers, including her son Mitch who helped to manage the company.
She was a member of Otterbein United Methodist Church. Her passion for life included spending time with her family and friends, going to the beach, traveling, and shopping. Everyone who knew her appreciated her love of life, living it to its fullest, and her energy and enthusiasm for everything she did.
The family would like to thank ALL the Nurses at Hospice and Community Care in Mt. Joy for the compassionate care Sharon received during her stay there.
A celebration of Sharon’s life will be held on Saturday, January 10 at 11 a.m. at Otterbein United Methodist Church, 20 E. Clay St., Lancaster, PA. Friends may call at the church on Saturday on 10:00 a.m. until the time of service. Private interment will be held at the convenience of the family.
It was Sharon’s request that those attending wear blue/teal, her favorite colors, and/or casual beachwear.
