Shirley C. Phelps, 90, of Parkertown, NJ, went to be with the Lord April 7, 2021. Born in Canton, NJ, she was the daughter of Harry and Ester Cobb; she moved here in 1951.
She attended Lower Alloway Creek Elementary School, graduated from Salem High School in 1947, and received a B.S. in Education from Rider University in 1951.
She taught one year at Salem High School, two years in Tuckerton High School and 24 years at Tuckerton Elementary School. After retiring she continued to substitute teach in Port Republic Elementary, Green Bank Elementary and New Gretna Elementary. She was a member of The Girl Scouts of America where she served as a Cadette Leader, Senior Leader, Troup Organizer and Consultant. She also was a volunteer at Seacrest Nursing Home for 17 years and was named Volunteer of the Year in 2006.
She is predeceased by her husband Kenneth of 65 years and her brother John Cobb.
She is survived by her daughter Candace Graff (Michael) of Mays Landing, grandsons Michael (Lauren), Christopher and Justin (Maddie). She has five great-granddaughters – Hayden, Makenna, Raleigh, Avery and Oaklyn.
A graveside memorial will be held in her honor at Tuckerton Greenwood Cemetery on Saturday, May 1, 2021 at 11:00 A.M.
Services have been entrusted to Brian L. Maxwell NJ License # 3834 with DeBord Snyder Funeral Home & Crematory, Lancaster, PA in conjunction with Lowenstein Saraceno Funeral Home, Smithville, NJ.
