Shirley D. Stine

A Tribute to Shirley Stine, aka “Gommy”

Shirley Stine was a strong, fiercely independent woman.  A housewife for the earliest part of her life, she took college classes to satisfy her thirst for knowledge, ultimately earning degrees from Norwalk Community College and Marshall University.  Shirley and her husband, David owned Toys on the Green in Neffsville, Hershey and Linglestown.  They shared a love for travel, touring the country in their motor home.  A favorite trip was visiting Turkey.  Recently, she traveled to Egypt with a friend and went to Vegas with her daughter.  Last year Shirley went to Texas with her daughter and granddaughters to visit a lifelong friend. Shirley remained active in her later years and enjoyed a variety of activities with her many friends.

She was known as Gommy, a name given to her many years ago by her then 2 year old grandson. She was Gommy, not only to her beloved grandchildren, but also to their myriad of friends who knew and loved her.

She is survived by her son, Grafton Stine and his wife, Barbara of Palmyra; her daughter and best friend, Gretchen Masters and her husband, Christopher of Lancaster; her grandson, Cory Schlotzhauer; and granddaughters, Page Derr and Rudy Derr,  all of whom who were her pride and joy.

Shirley died March 14

th

.  A quote, “Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming –‘WOW’– What a Ride!” describes Shirley’s life exactly.  She enjoyed life to the fullest and will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her. A celebration of life event is being planned for the near future.  The family respectfully wishes to omit flowers.

We love you, Gommy.
