Shirley Elliott (nee Trewetz), 89, of Landisville, passed away peacefully at the Mennonite Home early on the morning of Wednesday, August 21, 2013. A lifelong resident of Lancaster County, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Charles G. Elliott (2008), and her sister Elizabeth (Betty) Gangwer. She was a long-time member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Lancaster.
A member of the first class to spend all three years at J.P. McCaskey High School in Lancaster, she graduated in 1941. Following high school, she served in the Coast Guard during World War II, then began working for Armstrong. She married Charles Elliott in 1951, settling in Landisville, where she remained until shortly before her passing. A dedicated homemaker and mother, she volunteered for several organizations, including the Landisville Branch of the LGH Women’s Auxiliary and Meals on Wheels.
She is survived by sons Jeffrey Elliott of Landisville and R. Scott Elliott of Glassboro, NJ; four grandsons; and three great-grandsons.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 26, 2013 at 2:00 P.M. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 31 S. Duke St., Lancaster, PA. The family will visit with friends on Monday at the church from 1:00 P.M. until the time of service.
In lieu of flowers, Shirley asked that donations be made to the Humane League of Lancaster County, 2195 Lincoln Hwy East, Lancaster, PA 17602.
