Terrance “Terry” R. Sheaffer, 85, of Lancaster, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Christmas Eve, 2014, at Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy, surrounded by his daughter Ann Sheaffer and his caregiver Gail Barnes, both of whom he resided with. Born in Lancaster, PA in 1929, he was the son of the late A. Paul and Catherine (Holtzapple) Sheaffer. Terry was the loving husband of the late Shirley (Spence) Sheaffer, who passed away in 1999.
After graduating from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1947, Terry began working for Pennsylvania Power & Light Co. as a meter reader. He spent his entire working career with PP&L, having retired in 1998 in the building maintenance department. After his retirement, he worked as the part time custodian of the former Abbeyville Road Christian Church for ten years. He then went on to volunteer for eight years at Lancaster General Hospital.
Terry and Shirley were longtime members of the former Church of Christ/ Abbeyville Road Christian Church where they served in many ways and made longtime friendships. In his younger years, he played on the church’s softball and bowling teams. He also attended Faith Bible Fellowship Church. He enjoyed watching McCaskey, Penn State and Eagles Football. He became quite popular with Tina, Oliver, Squirt and Vespa, his canine family.
Besides Ann, listed above, Terry is survived by four siblings, Sidney R. and Jessie Sheaffer, of Gordonville, Thomas R. Sheaffer, of Lancaster, Mary K. Huber, of Covina, CA, Joseph R. Sheaffer, of Lancaster. He was preceded in death by his wife, listed above, and three brothers, Paul C., Bruce B., and J. Donald.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial service in the “Stables” at the Faith Bible Fellowship Church, 151 Donerville Rd. Lancaster, PA 17603, on Saturday, January 24, 2015 at 11:00 AM with the Rev. David Thomann officiating. Family will greet friends informally following the service. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
