Thomas J. Wall, Sr.

Thomas J. Wall, Sr., 83, of Lancaster PA died Wednesday, March 28, 2012, at Lancaster General Hospital. Born in Ashland, PA, he was the son of the late Samuel J. and Esther Wall. He was preceded in death by his sister, Lois Startzel.

Tom was the husband of Ethel (Doyle) Wall. Together they celebrated 53 years of marriage on May 31, 2011.

He was a 1946 graduate of Mahanoy City High School. Tom served two tours with the U.S. Army during WWII and the Korean Conflict. He was a member of First United Methodist Church for many years. He was a life member of the VFW, Post 7294 and the American Legion, Post 0034. Tom and Ethel were active members of the Dutchland Polkateers. He was employed by Armstrong World Industries for 42 years, retiring in 1989. Tom was an avid sports fan. He coached Lancaster Township Midget Baseball, attended every sporting event that his children and grandchildren participated in, and was a supporter of the J.P. McCaskey HS basketball program.

In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his children, Thomas Jr., Mission Viejo, California; Ann, wife of Stephen Willig, Lancaster; and Daniel, husband of Amy, Lancaster. Tom was “Poppy” to his five grandchildren—Aimee Wall, Patrick and Ian Willig, and Carly and Kelly Wall—who brought a special joy to his life. Tom will be dearly missed by his extended family and many friends.

A funeral service will be held at the First United Methodist Church at the corner of Duke and Walnut Streets Lancaster, PA on Saturday, March 31st at 2:00 P.M. Friends may call at the church on Saturday from 12:30 P.M. until the time of the service. Interment in St. Joseph’s New Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Tom’s memory to the American Cancer Society 314 Good Drive, Lancaster, PA 17603.
