Velma M. Hart
Velma M. Hart, 91, died Friday, March 2, 2012 at the Mennonite Home. Born in Mount Nebo, she was the daughter of the late Clarence R. and Daisy Lehman Hart.
Velma was a graduate of the Lancaster General Hospital School of Nursing Class of 1941 and the University of Pennsylvania. She was employed as a Public Health Nurse with the Philadelphia Visiting Nurse Society from 1941to 1946. She was employed by the American Lung Association of Lancaster County from 1946 to 1983, retiring as the Executive Director.
Velma was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Lancaster for over 50 years. She was a life member of the Lancaster General Hospital Nurses Alumni Association, past president of the Pilot Club of Lancaster, and a life member and past president of the Beta Sigma Phi International Sorority. She also volunteered for Meals on Wheel and The Lancaster County Historical Society.
She is survived by nieces and nephews.
Services and interment will be private. Contributions in Velma’s memory may be made to the Memorial Fund at either First United Methodist Church, 29 E. Walnut St., Lancaster, PA 17602 or The Mennonite Home, 1520 Harrisburg Pk., Lancaster, PA 17601.
