Verna C. Fiora of Lancaster passed away on Monday, September 4, 2017.
She was born in Columbus, Ohio to the late Melvin and Mary Chambers and was married to the late Hugo J. Fiora for 61 years until his death in 2011. Verna graduated from Ohio State University and went on to work as a chemist for Aberdeen Proving Grounds.
After moving to Lancaster County, Verna played violin for the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra and often for musical, opera, and church productions in the area. She was an avid reader, enjoyed music and the arts, traveling with Hugo throughout the country, Europe, and Caribbean. Verna was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Lancaster.
She is preceded in death by two brothers, Harold Chambers and Clarence (Ed) Chambers. She is survived by a daughter, Janet Cherinka, a son-in-law, Andrew Cherinka, a son, Glen Fiora, a grandson Brian Cherinka, and a sister Thelma Heath.
