Virginia A. Mattern

Virginia A. Mattern, 94, of Lancaster, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024, at Magnolias of Lancaster. She was the wife of the late Adam J. Mattern, Jr, for 57 wonderful years.

Born in Lancaster, PA, she was the daughter of the late Chester L. and Mabel H. (Hoffman) Dagen.

She graduated from J.P. McCaskey High School in 1948. In her earlier years she worked at Schick Electric and Hamilton Technology.

Ginnie loved to read, trade recipes with friends and enjoyed visiting the beach. She had a passion for dancing and loved her animals, particularly her yorkies. She was also a member of Figure Firm Spa for many years, which she very much enjoyed.

Virginia was a member of St. Leo the Great Catholic Church in Rohrerstown. 

She is survived by a son, Adam J. Mattern, III; a daughter, Deborah A. Kegel; and three grandchildren, Shane Kegel, Erin Mattern, Nathaniel Mattern and a great-granddaughter, Deanna Kegel. In addition to her husband and parents, Ginnie was preceded in death by a sister, Elizabeth J. Miller and by brothers, Chester L. Dagen and Richard Dagen.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial mass at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave, Lancaster, PA 17601on Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 11:00 AM. The family will greet friends at the church starting at 10:30 AM. A private interment will occur in St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
