W. John Oswald, 75, a resident of Landis Homes, died at the home on Wednesday, February 19, 2014.
Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Rev. Gordon and Pauline Stroeble Oswald.
John was a graduate of Palmerton High School and the University of Pennsylvania. He was president of Sigma Phi Epsilon and the Christian Association there. He was employed by the University of Pennsylvania as an assistant to the dean of Residential Life then by Penn State Abington, where he was director of Student Activities. He retired from Bloomingdale’s in KIng of Prussia, where he had worked for 15 years.
John enjoyed history, reading, stamp collecting, anything to do with England, and being with his family and friends. He was part of the Grandview United Methodist Church family in Lancaster.
Surviving are a sister, Carolyn Kendall of Lititz, and two nephews: Charles A., married to Trisha, of Denver, CO, and Andrew D. of Glenside, PA.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. in the East Bethany Chapel at Landis Homes, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, PA. Friends may greet the family in East Bethany from 10:30 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment in the Mellinger Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in John’s memory may be made to Landis Homes where he received exceptionally loving and thoughtful care for the past four plus years.
