Walter E. Bartlett

Walter Edward Bartlett, 89, passed away peacefully September 17, 2017 with Georgine L. (Mathis), his loving wife of 66 years, by his side.

Walter was a life time resident of West Creek & New Gretna, NJ. He was a veteran of the US Navy, having served during the end of WWII and after, on an air craft carrier. Walter was a lifetime member of the Eagleswood Volunteer Fire Company and served various community services in Eagleswood. This included school board member where he was instrumental in founding the now Eagleswood Elementary School & Civil Defense director during the “COLD WAR” era.

His vocation was being self-employed in the building materials, swimming pool, & masonry contracting business. Walter’s avocation as a private pilot allowed him many trips around the country & to the Bahamas. This led to Walter seeing the need for a local airport and the founding of Eagles Nest Airport In West Creek NJ. Walter was also a lifetime member of the Southern Ocean Rotary where he achieved perfect attendance.

He is survived by his wife Georgine L. (Mathis) Bartlett, sons: Edward W (Anna)., Lawrence R, (Diane) James H. and daughter, Patricia G. Courtney (Richard), 12 grandchildren & 35 great -grandchildren.

Friends and family are respectfully invited to attend a visitation at 10:00 am on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at Calvary Baptist Church, 850 Railroad Drive Little Egg Harbor, NJ 08087, with a Memorial Service starting at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the church. Burial will be at a later date in West Creek Cemetery.
