William H. Heathcote, 85, of Lancaster, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2014 after a long illness. He was the son of the late Harry H. and Dorothy Folckemer Heathcote.
Mr. H was born on February 2, 1929 in Shrewsbury, PA, and graduated from York High School in 1947. He received a Bachelor’s degree in 1951 from the University of Pennsylvania, where he was a member of Pi Kappa Alpha, the Philadelphia Eagles Band, and the Naval ROTC.
He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean conflict. He was employed by the former Armstrong Cork Company, currently known as Armstrong World Industries, retiring in 1990.
He was a member of Highland Presbyterian Church, in Lancaster. Bill enjoyed playing tennis at Lancaster tennis & Yacht Club, and played trumpet for many years in the Malta Band of Lancaster, Bob Troxell’s Big Big Jazz Band, and the Lee County Community Band in Ft. Myers, FL.
He is survived by Elizabeth, his wife of 61 years; a son, Richard Heathcote, husband of Vella Bloom-Heathcote, of Fairfax, VA; a daughter, Judith, wife of Mark Hutton, of Sykesville, MD; seven grandchildren and one great grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Patricia F. Heathcote, of York, PA.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Memorial service in the Community Room at the Parrish Resource Center, 633 Community Way, Lancaster, PA, 17603, on Saturday, September 27, 2014 at 2:00 PM with the Rev. David Longenecker officiating. Family will greet friends from 1:00 PM until the time of the service. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family.
