William Wheeler Boyce III, 63, of Lititz passed away suddenly on Friday, January 29, 2010 at Heart of Lancaster Regional Medical Center, Lititz, PA.

Born in Baltimore, MD, son of the late William W., Jr. and Nancy Wiley Boyce, Bill spent most of his youth in the Lancaster area – specifically Grandview Heights and he attended Manheim Township Schools. He graduated from The Ohio State University in 1969 with a degree in Visual Communication Design and served in the US Army from 1969-1971.

After serving in the military, Bill moved to Arlington, VA and worked for Control Data Corporation where he met his future wife. In 1974, he married Jane McClellan in Annandale, VA. Bill and Jane moved to Lancaster, PA in 1978 where he began a 30-year career with Armstrong World Industries. He was a faithful member of St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church of Lancaster.

A talented advertising designer, Bill volunteered his skill and time to many organizations in Lancaster County including the American Cancer Society, Historic Preservation Trust of Lancaster, Train Collectors Association, St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Lancaster Country Day School, and Lancaster Summer Arts Festival, just to mention a few. Devoted to the Lancaster community and the preservation of its heritage, Bill served on numerous boards and committees for these and other organizations.

Upon retiring in 2007, Bill enjoyed a busy freelance design business, Boyce Design, and worked part time for the hobby he loved most at the Strasburg Train Shop and Choo-Choo Barn. There, he shared his passion for model railroading with the young and old alike. When time allowed, Bill also volunteered for the Education and Museum Committee at the National Toy Train Museum in Strasburg, PA.

Bill is survived by his wife of 35 years, Jane; and sons, Christopher Stuart, husband of Teresa Adcock Boyce and a granddaughter, Sara Elizabeth of Recife, Brazil; David Pennington Boyce of Phoenix, AZ; and William W. IV, husband of Kirsten Kaufman Boyce of Arlington, VA; and a brother, Mark Wiley, husband of Robin Relyea Boyce of Belton, TX; and numerous extended family as well as a much-loved Jack Russell Terrier, Jubie.
