Willie “Clyde” Claude Jones

Lancaster, PA – Willie “Clyde” Claude Jones, 83, died unexpectedly on Monday, December 14, 2020. Born in Attalla but raised in Gadsden, AL; Willie was the son of the late Cleveland Sr. and Alice (Howard) Jones.  He was preceded in death by his siblings Cleveland “Jenny” Jr., Floralean, Edward Sr., and Bettye Jean.

In 1954, Willie graduated from Carver High School and later joined the United States Air Force.  During his service, Willie traveled and was stationed in different countries throughout Europe.  Upon his return to the United States, he matriculated at Tuskegee University- where he received a BA in Accounting.  A few years later, he pursued a teaching certificate in mathematics at Jacksonville State University in Jacksonville, AL.

After teaching for a number of years at Nancy E. Oden Junior High School, Carver High School, and General Forrest Junior High School in Gadsden, AL, Willie and his family moved to Huntsville, AL where he worked for the Alabama Beverage Control and eventually Huntsville City Schools.  Willie retired in 2003 as a middle school mathematics teacher and relocated to Lancaster, PA.

A music lover, Willie enjoyed listening and dancing to Motown/Classic R&B tunes, especially Gladys Knight and the Pips.  He was also an avid sports fan who enjoyed watching the University of Alabama and Philadelphia Eagles football games.

He is survived by his wife Ollie (Calloway) Jones and their children; grandchildren and great grandchildren; a brother Will “Flick” Jones of Gadsden, AL; many nieces and nephews; and friends.
