Yvonne Nussbaum Sparks, 99, of Lancaster, died May 12, 2017 at The Mennonite Home. Born in Lancaster, she was the daughter of the late Tell Berthold and Mary Margaret Rudy Nussbaum. Her husband, John T. Sparks died January 28, 1983.
Mrs. Sparks graduated from Stevens High School in January, 1936 where she was Vice President of her senior class. She retired from Armstrong World Industries as Supervisor in the Advertising Department and also worked for the Department of Public Assistance.
A longtime member of First United Methodist Church, Yvonne enjoyed volunteering in the church office and served on several committees. She also shared her love for volunteerism with Heart Association, Cancer and Multiple Sclerosis Societies, Boy Scouts as a Den mother, and Lancaster General Hospital in several departments, including the marketing department.
Her memberships include the Statue of Liberty-Ellis Island Foundation, United Auxiliary to Lancaster General Hospital, Armstrong Recreation and Travel Assoc., Armstrong Activities Assoc., A.A.R.P., and she was a member of the former Armstrong Circle A Club.
Yvonne liked sports, particularly Phillies baseball and Penn State football. She enjoyed reading and doing crossword puzzles.
She is survived by her son, J. Gary Sparks of Indianapolis, IN. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her still born Baby Girl, Judy Sparks and her sister, Vivian Nissly.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service from the DeBord Snyder Funeral Home, 141 E. Orange St., Lancaster, PA 17602 on Thursday, May 18, at 11:00 A.M. with the Rev. Kerry Leeper officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment in the Millersville Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Meals on Wheels, 1085 Manheim Pike B, Lancaster, PA 17601.
